Tom
If this is a multitier system, what will be running on this server? Both Oracle DB and an application server? I second Raj's comment, consider Oracle licensing. Servers today are priced as commodities. Oracle DB is not. If you run only Oracle DB on a server, you will get maximum benefit from your software licensing fees.

I have a question, I have to make a decision on the purchase of a new web server for a multiteir Oracle based system. So here are my two remaining options, all other things remaining equal, on a system which has 100% dynamically generated web pages.
or
2. A server with two 1ghz CPU.
Which will provide more power?
A little more food for though. Would a server with a 1ghz CPU and 512mb RAM be adequate for a Oracle backed web site, which the pages are all 100% dynamic?
