[Q]terminating instance due to error 601

Hi folks ,
whats the meaning of error 601. The Database crashed with the following message in alert log -->

Mon Mar 3 03:15:53 2003
PMON: terminating instance due to error 601 Instance terminated by PMON, pid = 1222

Platform Details-->
OS -> RH 7.1
Oracle -> 8.1.6
