Yechiel - Thanks for this again. Sorry I couldn't recall who posted it. Sorry Jared. I haven't had a chance to try it, but like many DBAs, I have been nailed so many times by global_names that this seemed to be a really clever way around problems.

alter database rename global_name to new_global_name;

After this you can create links between the two databases while using global_name=true.

I learned the trick while building advance replication.
