I will copy this reply to the Oracle list as there are many more experienced people there.
Have you followed the steps in Metalink note 146599.1? If so, what results did you get from the various queries? Try posting them to the Oracle-L list.
After looking at those query results and if the answer isn't obvious, you may want to consider adding an event (eg "4031 trace name errorstack level 3") to dump a level 3 errorstack when an ora-4031 occurs.. This errorstack could be interpreted by Oracle support or others (not by me) to help determine the reason for your error.

hi,
I look at this article and I have the same problem. I am stand alone on this database
with a big SGA and sometime I receive the ORA-04031. The version is 8.1.7.4 on Unix AIX.
How do you correct this problem ?
