I am not positive but since you are creating a function-based index Oracle generates its only index column name.

Hi
I create a table as follows:
create table a ( a number(1));
Then I create index as :
create index ia on a(a desc);
If i see the index columns as :
select index_name, table_name, column_name, column_position from all_ind_columns where table_name = 'A';
index_name table_name column_name column_position
IA A SYS_NC00002$ 1
What is the reason for the change in the column name of the index. How to avoid this?
TIA -rM
