We have the same issues. The way I deal with this is to:
(a) Always keep the PDF versions of the Reference, Tuning Guide, SQL
Reference and Concepts manual open at all times
(b) Browse the 'interesting' messages from this list at least for about 15
min everyday
(c) Test your version of the answer, or the other more intelligent one if
possible (and answer/correct when possible as others will learn from that
too)
(d) If this is new to you, read up Concepts and Reference if possible.
