Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: SQL and case structure
Look up the DECODE command.
SELECT decode(substr(acct_no,16,1),'1',one,'2','two','other') FROM ....
should look like that

Listers:
I've used SAS's version of SQL and it allows the coding of conditional logic in the SELECT statement:
proc sql;
select acct_no,
case substr(acct_no,16,1) when '1' then 'one' when '2' then 'two' else 'other'
The same syntax does not work in SQL*Plus for Oracle 8. Can someone point me to the correct syntax?
Secondly, any URLs for this kind of information would be most appreciated.
Regards,
Harry
