I would question the integrity of an RMAN catalog that had to undergo PITR.
> And why can't RMAN do the "cold" backup?
Well, it could if I just used the control file. If the RMAN database is shutdown, I don't have a repository. The RMAN database is on the NetBackup master server. I just have the database stopped and back up the directories that the database is in.

I don't know, that's what Oracle is saying. Haven't investigated it myself.

Why not? Or rather, why?
And why can't RMAN do the "cold" backup?

I've not worked with OID; why can't it be backed up "hot"?
