Have to differ with you on this - ANALYZE may place a DDL lock, but not a DML lock. This would have otherwise severely restricted concurrency. Should be easy enough to prove: Run two simultaneous sessions, one ANALYZING and one UPDATING a reasonably sized table on a test database.. Look at V$SESSION_EVENT for enqueues, and you will not see any.
It is true that there is an ONLINE sub-clause, but this is applicable _only_ for the VALIDATE STRUCTURE clause, and not for collection of object statistics that was referred by Rick.
