Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: Rolling partitions
Igor,
I'm curious. Do your partitions have only locally partitioned indexes on them? Do you have any global indexes on these tables? If yes, does your procedure also automatically rebuild your indexes at the same time? Does this index rebuild occurr online or offline (if one is done)?
I'm intrigued by this concept but we have global primary key indexes that become invalid and need to be rebuilt every time we drop or add partitions.
Thanks,

No generic (oracle-provided) procedures.
I wrote two scripts (stored procedures), scheduled to run every day.
First one ("add_partitions") checks if partitions for CURRENT and NEXT
month
exist, and if not - it creates them.
Second ("drop_partitions") checks the amount of free space in the
tablespace, and if it's below some threshold, it drops the oldest
partitions
(keeping in mind referential integrity between tables involved).
