Forgive a quick story on the LDS. Previously their hardware vendor was CDC.
They were always tape-based, but decided to go on-line. Dedicated terminal
at each location worldwide. CDC was excited, to say the least. Prospects of
banks of mainframes, disk farms. But common sense struck before the contract
was signed. The LDS decided they could simply have a PC in each location,
and every few months burn new CD-ROMs. After all, dead people don't change
much. CDC was crestfallen. Seriously, I understand that if you ever get into
family genealogy, the LDS is a offers wonderful resources for free.

I can believe that - I think they are the group that offers all the geneaology services to track family histories. I'll bet that's one heck of database too!
