Computer book sales have been sharply off since at least spring 2001. The situation greatly worsened in the fall. September was not kind, as both people and bookstores cut back on unneccessary purchases due to uncertainty over the economy. Coriolis isn't the only publisher to suffer, and it's unfortunate they weren't able to weather the storm.

Lots of computer book writers have been hit hard by Coriolis' demise. Imagine losing a big chunk of your income overnight. My understanding is that Coriolis authors were expecting royalty checks right about now. Authors who were depending on those checks to pay bills are having a tough time of things. It's just altogether a very bad situation.
