So we're in the process of moving our replicated Oracle Internet Directory
machines to production. My "production" desktop has a 21" monitor running
1600x1200, so I normally keep terminal windows wide and long. When I did a
"ps -ef" to see that everything was running, some extra characters appeared
on the right-hand side. After I did an "export COLUMNS=300" (using Korn)
and redid the "ps -ef", here's what displayed:
root 16634 1 0 16:53 pts/0 00:00:00 oidldapd connect=mydb2 dispatcher=1 worker=10 control=16616 debug=16384 logchange=TRUE configset=0 instance=1 key=1085074795 host=myhost2
Of course this will be mangled by e-mailers, but it looks as though Oracle padded dozens of spaces onto the launch of the "oidldapd" command to attempt to obscure the parameters passed. But for the life of me, I can't see why. There are no passwords or other sensitive data, is there?
Anyone see anything here? Maybe a good security hole for CERN? ;)
Just curious...
