Arslan,  

Since you are on 8.1.7, have you considered using the ALTER TABLE ... MONITORING feature? This will create entries in DBA_TAB_MODIFICATIONS detailing the estimated DML on the tables involved along with a Timestamp. This will enable you to estimate the required frequency...

What is the recommended frequency of analyzing schemas in an OLTP environment?

DB size near 8 GB. Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 on NT 4.
