Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> partitioning option with parallel server
hi all,
I have read this document on partitioning which says that partitioning cannot be implemented in clusters.
Partitioning is offered as an option in Oracle V8 Enterprise Server
Edition. It is an option that requires specific selection during
installation of the RDBMS that enables it to be linked into the kernel.
This new option is useful in addressing performance problems and
database
administration issues in Very Large Database (VLDB) environments.
Administrators of databases with historical data are particularly
interested in this option. Administrators of OLTP databases concerned
the performance and/or availability also benefit with the implementation
of this option.
Advantages:
This functionality is available for both indexes and tables, but cannot be implemented in clusters.
does this mean that we cannot implement partitioning with Parallel server. It would be of great help in case you can clarify this point.
thanks,
Sathish.
