Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: datafile compression
Keith,
I've been using PKZip (version 4.00) under Win2k to zip and unzip Oracle export dump files for months without a hitch. In fact, I just now zipped and unzipped a 400MB 8i datafile with no errors.
Are you sure there wasn't some other factor that affected the test you did? Do you have the latest version of PKZip?
Command line PKZip would be my first choice.
Jack

Hello everyone. Let me say first to all who are on the list group THANK YOU.
>From reading the emails I receive I have learned a LOT the past few weeks.
My question here is. I am trying to find a way to compress the datafiles when I copy them to a backup folder on NT. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what product they use to compress datafiles? Has anyone ever used the COMPRESS option on a folder in NT to compress datafiles? If so, was there ever a problem. I did try pkzip and when the files unzipped it gave errors abour the crc checks. I also researched this and didn't find much about compressing datafiles BUT i'm not that good with the oracle doc's yet either.
Thanks in advance for any responses to this email and everyone have a good day.
