The 'screen' utility would be a better choice IMO.
Simple to install and use. It allows you to start a process on a virtual terminal, and then detach and reattach the virtual terminal from clients at any location.
Also very handy if you are running processes on a unix box via a terminal emulator on a PC. If you're PC crashes your processes are still running in the virtual terminal.

Please respond to ORACLE-L
To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L <ORACLE-L_at_fatcity.com> cc: Subject: NOHUP SQLPLUS
I am going to be executing a long running job this weekend from home. I am
going to VPN into the corp network and telnet to the server. I am affraid
of
loosing my telnet terminal session and the job dying mid way through. The
plan is to use 'nohup sqlplus system/***** @long_running.sql'. Has anyone
used this or run into issues using it? Every time I assume something will
'just work', IT DOESNT!
Thanks
Erik
