Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Running a package from another instance
Rick,
I do this all the time. What I do is to create a local package that simply calls the remote package. This insulates the local application from any changes (especially to the db link name). You could also program in a way to not call the package if db link goes bad for some reason.
below is an example of a remote function call wrapped into a local function.
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION WTWDBA.Iwrt_Wtw_Getmin_Hours_F(
in_cin_id IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL, in_case_number_id IN VARCHAR2, in_district_cd IN VARCHAR2, in_suffix_id IN VARCHAR2, in_folder_id IN WTW_FOLDER.FOLDER_ID%TYPE DEFAULT NULL) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS loc_func_result VARCHAR2(10);
BEGIN loc_func_result := Wrt_Wtw_GetMin_Hours_F_at_wrtu.nysdss.gov(
in_cin_id, in_case_number_id, in_district_cd, in_suffix_id);return loc_func_result;
Hope this helps.

Hi DBAs,
I have a package(mail_pkg) in instance SID1. Can I run the package from
instance SID2? If so how do I proceed?
Is it just a matter of creating a db_link. ex. exec mail_pkg.send_mail
(....)@dblink_name.
Thanks
Rick
