To all oracle dba...

This problem exist when I running oracle 8.1.7 or Oracle 9i v_yy BINARY_INTEGER;
v_date DATE;

v_chardate VARCHAR2(20);

V_CHARDATE := '31-DEC-'||TO_CHAR(year(p_date));

when I compile ..it get me error

PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "(" when expecting one of the following:

   from
The symbol "from" was substituted for "(" to continue.

Here is a simple solution to it..

v_yy := year(p_date)

v_chardate := '31-DEC-'||v_yy......

any other solution for this ?
