Oracle 8.1.6, using Net8, wants me to name my db_link the same as the database that it's linking to.

I don't want to.

Tried using a synonym but that didn't work.

Tried using create database link linkname connect to userid identified by password
 using ' (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = hostname)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = dbname) ) )' ;

Didn't work. It created the database link just fine but when I try to use it I get:

ORA-02085: database link linkname connects to dbname

Anyone know of any work-arounds.
