Here's a question I'm suddenly wondering about.
I'm upgrading my production database from 8.0.4.3 to 8.1.7.2 this weekend. Now it's my understanding that the 8.1.7 upgrade must be done first, then the patch installation (and rerunning catalog, etc.).
My intention for the standby database is to pre-install the .2 patch in the
second $ORACLE_HOME I have set up and then just copy all the database files
(including a new standby control file) over to the standby box once the full
upgrade and patch installation is completed on the primary and recreate the
secondary as a standby database.
I assume this should work?
But this now raises a second question.
If I was just doing a patch installation (not a full upgrade) is there any
way to avoid copying the entire database over to the standby box?
Thanks!
