Just skip the default database.
If you really want it, just have the installer generate scripts then run the scripts manually.

I installed on NT 4.0 server. Taking the default install it installes all
and begins to initialize the default database and gives the message
ora-03113(End of file on communications channel) after about 90%
installation. Have tried it from multiple machines with the same results.
It
worked fine for windows 2000.
