Ah, I didn't make the connection between the ORA-600's and trying to delete the statistics. You no doubt explained, I just needed more coffee. :)

I would certainly had done it using the 'documented way' if it had not resulted in an ORA-00600 error :(. Meddling with dictionary tables usually is my last resource ... This is what I did in the end, even if unorthodoxically.
