Thanks, Ruth. Because we aren't yet ready to bet the farm on RMAN, we are
keeping them in both locations. And since we only do a weekly cold backup,
we keep a week's worth on disk. I'm thinking that for the time being we can
forgo RMAN backing up the archive logs. Thanks.

If you want to be able to restore your database to a point in time or do a complete recovery you database you must have all of the archive logs you need. If you don't include them in a backup you must keep them in the archivelog destination,
