startup remote instance 9i

Hi All,

client 8.1.6 (NT)
Server 9.0.1 (W2K)

I'm trying to start/stop the instance remotely and am not succeding.

First it complains about obsolete parameters JOB_QUEUE_INTERVAL & MTS_DISPATCHERS, but they should not be there since they are not in the pfile, nor the spfile (both on server)

then it goes on to start the instance, after which it complains about identifying the controlfiles.

My understanding was that with an spfile I did not have to have a local copy of the init files

What am I missing here??
