That is, you can do both, let RMAN do it for you or apply the logs after restoring them.

OK, this may be dumb.  I was under the impression that if you use rman to back up your database, you MUST use rman to restore and recover.
Is this not true?  Is it possible to utilize rman for restore and sign in to sql*plus or svrmgrl to initiate the recovery? Any comments are appreciated.  THanks
