I use them for transient collections , for example, the "table" and "cast" operators to pass 'chunks' of rows about in PL/SQL. Thus this is really just creating various types in the dictionary and referencing these in PL/SQL routines.
I'm not really a fan of using object-segments (for lack of a better terms), ie physical tables of objects et al, since if you dig under the covers, Oracle is just implementing the whole lot as relational tables anyway - in which case, I'd rather have the control.
