CLOB datatype

Does anyone have any opinions on using CLOB/NCLOB datatypes in Oracle? I am running 8.1.7.2 on Solaris.
Oracle Docs state that CLOBs can handle up to 4 Gig. Are there any gotchas by using CLOBs?

Thanks for any information,

Rick Stephenson
