Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: Root to connect as system
Hi,
I have managed to make it work. On a HP-UX box I can get root to connect as internal, system and whatever else I please. It can run scripts, shutdown and startup and do whatever u want.
I know this is a "no-no" but I really did not have a choice in the matter. The stupid application only wanted root to run some create schema and create table scripts.
Cheers,
Sujatha

Joe:
I have a vague, hazy recollection of that as well. Way back under v6 (when
men
were men and sheep were nervous :-) ), I think I recall reading that the
root user
was forbidden to do a "connect internal" to the database even if a member of
the
"dba" group. I remember having to setup an account to be used, but that may
have
been specific to our port (DEC Ultrix).
Ahhhhh, yes. The days of SQL*DBA (didn't even have to "connect internal" to startup/shutdown the database back then). . .
Actually, I just ran a really quick test under Linix and it wouldn't take.
This
was under v8.1.7. I will have to get access to some other systems tonight
to see
if it is true for v7/v9 and other OS's such as Solaris and HP-UX.
