got this from one of the analysts looking at one of the tars my colleugues had filed for a bug we were hiting that is fixed in 817 .. the reason he said for denial of backport to 8163 was: "8.1.6 is desupported as of October 31st of this year"

looks like oracle wants everyone to jump 2 817 (.. if not 9i)
