This is impossible to determine without doing some I/O analysis on the system. The "ideal" setup for a DSS system could be horrible for OLTP. Even an "ideal" setup for one OLTP system could be horrible for another!
Two rather general and universal comments may apply though:
The important thing about Loney's examples is not to take them as gospel, it is to understand the reasoning behind the decisions and apply similar reasoning to your own situations. With 21 disks, I would probably never use the exact layout in the book. The examples don't even mention some significant options - like striping. This is not to fault the examples though, for the reasons stated earlier. There are very few canned answers in this business. Understanding is infinitely more valuable than "knowledge".
