You can do an offline backup with shutdown abort.

But anyway...see if there are any Oracle processes using CPU and go from there. There was a couple of bugs in that version of Oracle in which one (if memory serves me right) hangs on shutdown immediate if the number of processes were reached and the second bug had to do with the Archiving process spawning a lot of processes.

I always hated trouble shooting problems on Microcrap products.
