Regrettably I have no experience with an OS390 machine, but as far as Oracle vs DB2 we did look into that option a couple of months ago. From a cost perspective DB2 is no cheaper than Oracle once you toss in all of the goodies that Oracle sends along gratis. From an operational perspective I found getting everything configured and running smoothly a real pain in DB2 and much easier in Oracle.

We're looking at possibly running Oracle on our mainframe, but the perception exists that a more optimum solution would be DB2. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that is running Oracle on OS390, and/or made a decision between DB2 and Oracle. Thanks - Kim Thompson City and County of San Francisco
