This is using SQL*plus on NT4 SP6 version 8.1.6 logged on to Oracle 8.1.7.2.1 EE on W2K connecting via dblink to Oracle 8.0.5 EE on AIX 4.3.2

Try doing a describe across that db link from 8i to 8.0.5...
