I used Informix 4GL but the DOS based version (back in '86, 19 not 18!!) and it was truely horrendous, it crashed for every reason imaginable and a few you could never dream of. Our payroll and expenses system was written in it.

I dabbled in COBOL but I found I was growing a beard and starting to wear Addidas Bethlahem so I stopped...went to desktop DBs after that (dBASE, FoxBase etc.)

Rachel,
Whats wrong with COBOL. I programmed with it in the early 70's and last I heard the "root" module I write is still in use today(payroll for a Fortune 100 company). Later in life I programmed in INFORMIX 4GL on a DataPoint server. It was replaced with an IBM 360 and they never got the application to run as fast as the original.

I am up there amongst the more "seasoned" members of this list.

I even (sh, don't tell anyone) programmed in COBOL.
