net 8 / 8i ?

We are running 8.0.5 and due to upgrade fatigue on our applications, we are at least one year away before we upgrade to 8i and/or possibly 9i.

But we are upgrading our desktops to windows 2000.

The question I have,

Should I install the net 8.0 client on the base image and upgrade it to 8i later ?

2. Should I go ahead and install the 8i client on the base image and be done with it.

The larger question being will the 8i client work with the 8.0 databases ??

Any tips, suggestions, experiences would be greatly appreciated
