For my SQL*Loader book, I downloaded a partial list of place names from the U.S. Geological Survey web site. There's a file for each state, and the number of names is quite large. Unfortunately, the data structure is fairly simple, so you don't necessarily end up with many tables. Though you could derive tables of county names, airport names, township names, and the like.
