Migration Workbench

Has anyone encountered problems with the Migration Workbench?

We are moving an older database from mysql 3.23 to oracle 8.1.7, however, when I try to connect to the mysql database from the tool, I get either a handshake error, or told no databases running on that server.

I am able to connect to the mysql from windows command line.

And to anyone that has used the migration tool in general, did they find it of much use?
