Kris,
Not exactly an answer to your question, but I installed XDK 817.1.A in my 816 database, and it works fine.
I would suggest that you created an 8i test database (you should have one installed someplace, anyway, for this kind of testing), and try and install the 9i XDK packages.
In theory, they are simple Oracle Stored Packages. If they install correctly, try and build some test tables and run some queries through the XDK packages and see what happens.
You could also call Oracle Support and ask their opinion.
hope this helps.

hi,
a programmer has requested DBAs to install XDK 9i. we have 8i
installed. he needs to validate some XML against XSD
schemas. unfortunately, XDK 8i does not have the functionality he needs.
does anybody have any experience using the XDK 9i and if it'll work if installed for an 8i database on solaris 2.6?
thank you,
kris
