Lee,

Our implementation of OCI makes use of the .h files in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/public and also the shared library libclntsh.so in $ORACLE_HOME/lib. These have to exist as part of the client installation. If I'm not mistaken, I had to select the programmer option from the list of installable pieces during the 8.0.5 client install.
