Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: How to break into DBA/Systems work without going broke
I used to be the SYSADM for a nationial project and the DBA was offered a "golden handshake" and retired in 2 weeks. At the next monthly task force meeting I asked the district director who was going to take over the DBA slot. His reply was that I was. It was that quick and unexpected but here I am now after a few years as the DBA/SYSADM at the job and also a "Golden handshake". I still have a family, a mortgage , my health and a few years before the IRS will let me have my retirement funds so I continue to work. Damn but I have it good!!! and loving every minute of it.
