Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: How to break into DBA/Systems work without going broke doing it?
It fell into my lap before I had a chance to refuse. I was in the ECON/Planning group for a refinery. We needed a new Lab Infomgmt System. I was champion of the march to get the new system. After the system arrived the group had it delivered to my office and said since you wanted this so bad you run it. I had a base loaded netware server, a box of Oracle 7.1.4 for Netware software, and a directive to get it up and running within the month. Six weeks later my wife introduced me to the kids again. That was back in 1994. Somewhere along the line I picked up enough knowledge to be sometimes valueable but usually just dangerous. ;-)
