Oracle variables; LD_LIBRARY_PATH & TNS_ADMIN

Hello,

I need some clarification. What is the significance of the Oracle variables, TNS_ADMIN & LD_LIBRARY_PATH? When are the 2 used or what effects what in the environment?

Also please if some one knows how do I monitor an Oracle Parallel Server? Any good book where I can read about OPS?
