Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Re: DNS vs. Oracle Names vs. tnsnames.ora
I see Oracle heading towards LDAP.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
I heard that Oracle is going toward a DNS solution and going away from tnsnames.ora and the Oracle Naming Service. Is this true?
We are looking to place a naming solution in our environment and I want to know which direction to head in. Also, if possible, I would like users to only see the databases they need to see, which is the main problem we have right now using a global tnsnames.ora file. Limiting users' views to only what they have a business need to see is an important step in many steps to secure the environment. I don't see how this would be accomplished using DNS. Comments?
Thanks,
Paul
