KIND OF>>> Erm..... has anyone out there taken the time to
learn Japanese ?? I am> looking at starting in the next couple of weeks
and would> like to hear if> anyone has struggled and know how hard
it is - I know French so any> comparisons would be great.I
speak english and french. I took two japanese classes about 12 years ago because
I was bored. So I wasn't as motivated as some other people might be.I
thought that the pronunciation and vocabulary were fairly easy, but
reading/writing very difficult. You probably already know that japanese has two
alphabets in addition to using a set of characters similar to chinese
characters. I wouldn't plan on being able to read japanese unless you are
willing to spend a few years on it.Most japanese people with which I tried
to speak japanese knew english better than I knew japanese, and I ended up
speaking english with them. So I didn't have a lot of opportunities to practice
my japanese. On the other hand, I didn't go live in Japan.I did get to
practice writing with a paint brush (for my own entertainment, not part of the
class curriculum.) Since I'm a poor artist my attempts at paint brush writing
were pathetic.
