Instance recovery, not database recovery, occurs after a shutdown abort or other abnormal instance termination. No DBA intervention is required; Oracle takes care of it automatically.

SVRMGR> connect sys as sysoper;
Password:
Connected.
SVRMGR> shutdown abort
ORACLE instance shut down.
SVRMGR> startup open;
ORACLE instance started.
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SVRMGR>
I thought recovery is needed, But its opened?????
