RE: automatic startup and shutdown of LISTENER

The following may work:

su - oracle -c $ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl <<eof start listener
exit
eof

Change the command to

su - oracle -c "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start"

You need the double quotes I believe.
