My understanding is that the current flavor of MAC OS is about $129.
That's not very Unix like!
MAC OS X is based on NeXT OS (that was KILLER) and NeXT was based on CMU Mach kernel (microkernel ideas).
Like Win NT. (ahem.)

I heard that the Mac OS is a variant of UNIX with a GUI on top.
So that wouldn't be far off the mark.

The same prediction was made at least 5 years ago. At the rate
Microsoft is going, Windows will be a direct form of Unix. It becomes more
like it with every release.
