What could go wrong is, if you are selecting like this: "Select <distinct col> from <table> where rownum < 20" because you are not selecting from all rows, but from the 1st 19 !!!!
If you use it the way, it was posted, it works correct ! The posted statements selects from all rows, and returns the 1st eight rows from the resultset, which is sorted in the manner you wish.
......or tell your group leader to post a rownum statement giving wrong results.....

No, No not for this statement , my group leader tells that rownum is not
used so much in applications becouse it can give wrong results sometimes. I
do not know if it is correct . I ask you for approve him or not..
