We are using rman on 8.1.5 Enterprise Edition on Sun Solaris 2.6 with Netbackup and Veritas. It seems to be working o.k. for us now. We've had quite a few wrinkles to work out but I'm not sure if it was problems with our end or rman's. I am not aware of official bugs with 8.1.5 with respect to rman.

Really, so does anyone use it? On what versions is it good work? 8.1.6? Doesn't matter, I did figure out what I was doing wrong, but that certainly is interesting.

I can't tell you why that won't work but I can tell you that I took a course where one of the attendees was an Oracle Support dude and he told me to stay away from Oracle 8.1.5 because RMAN just does not work right. Since I do not use RMAN I did not get details from him.
